1991 Toyota Celica GTS Specifications
- The GT-S's 2.2-liter, inline four-cylinder engine is a tuned version of the reliable Toyota 5S-FE engine also found in the Celica GT, Camry and MR2 cars of the same era. Power is rated at 130 horsepower at 5,200 RPM and an ample 144 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 RPM. Bore and stroke are 3.39 X 3.72 and the compression ratio is 9.6:1.
- A front-engine, front-wheel drive configuration is used. Two transmission choices were available: a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic with overdrive. The GT-S differs from ST and GT models in its use of standard anti-lock, four-wheel disc brakes and an upgraded suspension more fitting to its sporting character.
- The 1991 Celica lineup was relatively large and hefty compared with other sports coupes of the day. The GT-S measures 174 inches long, 50.4 inches tall and rides on a 99.4-inch wheelbase. Curb weight is 2,844 lbs. with seating for four. The GT-S was only offered in the hatchback body style, although coupe and convertible models were available at different trim levels.
