"The Greater Good" Recap
The Beechcraft
The baby keeps crying, despite Charlie's singing. Hurley tries to help. They smell his diaper, but it's okay. Hurley sings, but the baby continues to cry. In the jungle, Sayid and Locke reach the Beechcraft. Sayid inspects it and Locke explains about the heroin. Sayid looks at the radio. Locke asks why Sayid doesn't trust him."For one thing," Sayid says, "you've been carrying a gun you've told no one about."
Locke removes the gun from his waistband and gives it to Sayid. He asks if Sayid trusts him now and Sayid says no, it didn't show that he was trustworthy, it showed that he was adaptable.
Locke explains that they found the body of a Nigerian man. Locke also admits to knocking Sayid out when Sayid was trying to triangulate the signal.
Sayid grabs Locke by the neck and puts the gun to his throat. Locke says, "I did what was in everyone's best interest. The source of the distress call kept saying they're dead, it killed them all. Is that a place you really want to lead people to?"
Sayid wants to know why it took Locke so long to admit it and Locke says, "Because back then you wouldn't have engaged in reasonable debate, and nobody else would have. You were all so focused on getting off the island that you weren't seeing things clearly. It's like what's happening now with the raft."
Sayid asks if he burned the raft and Locke assures him that he did not. Sayid asks about the hatch and Locke says, "A hatch?
Two hatches on a plane, Sayid, could be foreword or aft." Sayid lowers the gun.
Sayid's Flashback - Sayid the Martyr
Sayid and Essam walk down a street in Sydney. "I'm not sure I can do this," Essam says.Essam is not afraid to die, but is worried about all the innocent people. Sayid says that innocent lives will be lost in service of the greater good.
Essam wonders if he is doing this because he's angry, and Sayid says so what if he is? Sayid lost someone too and there needs to be consequences.
Essam says, "Haddad was right, it was fate that brought us back together. Sayid, will you do this with me?"
"I will."
Someone to Blame
Shannon pulls a picture of her and Boone from Boone's bag. Sayid approaches and asks Shannon to take a walk with him. He tells her that Locke took him to the plane and he believes Boone's death was an accident.Shannon is upset and Sayid says, "I know how strong the need can be to find someone to blame."
Shannon says, "You don't get it, do you?" She runs off.
Soothing Sawyer
Walt asks Michael all kinds of questions about the raft and if it will tip over and what if sharks come and how much weight will it hold. Michael says they won't die and Walt says, "Boone died."Charlie comes with the crying baby, looking for Sun.
"Hey, Chuckie," Sawyer says, "want to keep that kid quiet? Baby Huey's like nails on a chalkboard."
As soon as Sawyer speaks the baby stops crying. When Sawyer stops talking, the baby cries again. Charlie follows Sawyer around with the baby.
Jack wakes up in a tent and Kate says, "Hey, brought you something to eat."
"What's in it, chloroform?"
Jack realizes that the key is not around his neck. "Who was in here?" Kate doesn't know. He says, "The key to the gun case, it's gone."
Kate and Jack find Sayid. "Maybe it fell off," Sayid says.
"Locke took the key," Jack said. "He's after the guns."
Sayid thinks for a moment. "It wasn't Locke."
Elsewhere on the island, Shannon is in the rain, getting a gun from the case.
