What You Can Do With Your Snoring

A good night's sleep is what everybody wants.
But if you have someone in the room who snores, the whole night can be ruined.
Snoring is that unpleasant and oftentimes irritating sound produced by the vibration of tissues in the throat when one sleeps.
There are a lot of reasons why one snores and there are also solutions to treat it.
Snoring may be a harmless or a potentially dangerous symptom.
However, no matter the reason, it can give the snorer a low quality of sleep since not enough oxygen might be delivered to the important body parts.
There is usually a resulting hangover-like feeling.
Those who are around the snorer have bad experience as well since the loud noise may render them sleepless and irritated.
The cause is usually a weak tissue at the back of the mouth.
Other causes include too much fats at the throat tissues, wrong sleeping position, allergy, sedatives, and clogged airways and sinuses.
Statistics also say that as one ages, the incidence of snoring increases.
Sedatives such as sleeping pills or alcohol weakens the tissues at the throat.
Cigarette smoke does the same.
Allergy may cause inflammation of the structures causing blockage of the airway.
The tongue may also fall back into the throat causing blockage.
The incorrect placement of pillows or flexion of the neck can cause the airways to get smaller.
You cannot do anything about your age increasing each year.
However, you can have your tissues and muscles remain strong and toned by exercising and reducing body weight.
You are also better off without cigarette and alcohol.
Quitting will do your body a great favor.
Antihistamines may also help with the allergies and the swelling of the throat.
Probably the easiest solution is to change the sleeping position to something else, or to modify the placement of your pillows while you sleep.
Snores are usually produced when one sleeps on his back since the tongue has a higher tendency of falling back.
Lying on your side can help solve this problem.
Correct placement of the pillows is also important.
Do not just place pillows under your head as it just flexes the throat even more, narrowing the already narrow airway.
Instead, place pillows under your back as well since it will elevate your upper body without having to flex the neck.
This allows for better lung expansion and wider airway.
There are also medications available to help treat snoring.
Consult your doctor first before taking any.
If all else fails, the last option to go is surgery.
It is invasive but could probably give more effective result than the others, especially if you have anatomical problems in your mouth and throat.
