A responsible travel to Coi village, Phu Tho, Viet Nam

PROJECT OVERVIEW

"The responsible travel abour education and community development in Coi Village – Xuan Son National park" is a program belonging to a project "Maintaining Dao people's cultural identity and promoting community tourism in Coi village" by Volunteer For Education Organization (V.E.O). The program draws many participations of Vietnamese volunteers and experts or international volunteers to support and build up a firm background for sustainable development of Dao people whose living conditions are still poor and difficult in Coi village.

At the same time, taking part in the program, volunteers will have a chance to experience in a great life of North-West area with Dao people's culture; a new land or a village bounded with beautiful nature and the mountains of Xuan Son national park.

The program aims at keeping different culture exchanges with Dao people's traditional identity. Furthermore, volunteers will contribute to teaching, training and developing communication in community tourism service in Coi village. Because Coi village has good conditions to develop community tourism, it is an opportunity for ethnic minorities to preserve the local cultures as well as bring lots of economic benefits to the local people for the sustainable development.

uAbout Coi village, Xuan Son national park

In Coi Village of Xuan Son commune, there are 82 households including 81 Dao people ones and Muong people one with over 400 people. With natural geographical features, Coi Village is located nearby Ten Mount. towards Southern East. Ten mountain is over 1,000 meters above sea level like a natural gem bestowed to Xuan Son. Coi Village's inhabitants live mainly on agriculture, one-crop cultivation on terrace fields and self-raised livestock and poultry; especially multi-spur cocks only Xuan Son owns and protected until now.

Along with production and labour customs, Coi Village keeps almost full of featured traditional cultures of Dao people like: house architecture built with Gianh grass roof and mud; rituals (wearing ethnic clothes in some festivals, sleeping in other houses to find a wife, Ban Vuong rituals,etc.); traditional dancing (Chieng dance, Turtle dance, Lap Tinh dance, etc.); traditional local foods or handicraft jobs (wine, dying, etc.)

Information about the trip:

The project "Maintaining Dao people's cultural identity and Promoting for community tourism development in Coi village" is a community development made by Volunteer For Education Organization (V.E.O). The project will support and contribute directly to ethnic community development, mostly Dao people in Coi village and maintain Dao people's featured culture. At the same time, the project aims at objective of developing living conditions along with protecting sustainable nature to reduce harmful actions to our environment. The project made and organized in a characteristic cultural area is a chance for volunteers to experience a new culture, a new lesson about nature and people. Moreover, with the participation of Vietnamese volunteers and international volunteers, the project brings a foreign exchange environment and a big volunteering network to promote the community for ethnic minorities in general as well as a personal skill development in specific.
