Why Buy Cigarettes When You Can Grow Tobacco at Home?

When you go to the store to buy cigarettes you may notice that you are quickly liberated with around 6.00. Some will say "Oh that is the way it is. If you want to smoke then you have to pay what they want you to pay." This is often the case with many products because they cannot be easily produced at home. Petrol is a good example of this. It would be unreasonable to think of someone buying crude oil and building a refinery to produce petrol. The bad new is that, if you use petrol, you will pay what they ask, or walk. The good news is that when you buy cigarettes you have a choice.

Not buy cigarettes? What is the alternative? Grow tobacco at home. That is the alternative. There is even more good news. You do not have to be a farmer with years of experience and thousands of pounds worth of expensive equipment. Also, you do not have to live in a warm place like the famous tobacco producing areas of the world. It is perfectly possible to never have to buy cigarettes again and it is even more possible to grow tobacco in the United Kingdom!

To revolution against buying cigarettes starts with buying a tobacco plant. These can be purchased at a variety of places, either in specialty shops or on the internet. Once you have procured your tobacco plant (or plants, a tobacco plant will produce one hundred grams of tobacco so purchase the amount that is right for you) you will only need to plant, fertilise, cure, process and enjoy.

Planting is not scientific. Simply allow for one square metre of earth per tobacco plant. If one square metre per plant is not available they may be planted in pots. Each pot should be able to accommodate twelve litres. Tobacco will grow in many areas. You do not need perfect weather. The weather in the United Kingdom is perfect for growing tobacco. As long as there is some sunshine you will be able to grow tobacco. Even in areas with sunshine the plants will grow with shade.

Two weeks after the tobacco has been planted it will be ready for fertiliser. There are two choices of fertiliser by type: organic and non-organic. Organic fertiliser is natural such as manure, alfalfa meal, or phosphate rocks. Non-organic fertilisers can be purchased. When buying a non-organic fertiliser pay attention to the nitrogen level of the fertiliser. A fertiliser with too little nitrogen will not provide for correct nourishment, fertiliser with too much nitrogen will cause flowers to grow, which does not correctly nourish the leaves. When you buy cigarettes you are buying the processed leaves, not the flowers.

To grow tobacco or any crop for that matter also raises concern for pests. The good news about tobacco is that it is a very pest resistant plant. The only two things that should be of concern with tobacco are slugs and snails. If a slug or a snail is found frolicking in the tobacco they should be removed at once and relocated to another area.

Tobacco will be ready to harvest around ninety days after planting. Once harvested the tobacco is ready to be cured, cut, and rolled. After all of this, the end product will be a fine tasting, home grown cigarette. The trips to the store to waste 6.00 to buy cigarettes will be over at this point. Tobacco is something that is not unreasonable or difficult to do. The weather in the United Kingdom will allow for its production. Instead of buying tobacco, grow it at home!
