Belo Horizonte natives love Bar do Careca for its meat dishes - the ox tongue and carne de panela, a meat stew, are some of the favorites - and moqueca. The friendly presence of bald (careca) owner Orcínio Gonçalves Ferreira and the cold beer also help.
A regular participant in Comida di Buteco and the contest's first winner, the bar in North BH has been around since the 1970s, at first at a different address.
But Ferreira's experience in the industry goes back to his childhood, when he used to wash glasses at a bar.
Hours:
Tue-Thur 5:30 p.m. to the last customer; Fri-Sun and holidays, 11 a.m. to the last customer.
