How to Make a Foldable Chicken Cage
- 1). Create two rectangles from 2-by-2-inch pieces of wood. Determine how long you want your coop to be, then cut four pieces of wood that length. For example, cut four 6-foot pieces of wood if you want a 6-foot-long coop. Determine how tall you want the coop to be, then cut four pieces of wood that length. For example, cut four 4-foot pieces of wood if you want a 4-foot-tall coop. Make a rectangle using two long pieces and two small pieces. Screw them together using wood screws and a drill, then repeat with the remaining pieces to make a second rectangle.
- 2). Connect the two wood rectangles together length-wise using hinges. Lay them on top of each other, then screw a hinge on each end of a long side. You should be able to open and close the two wood rectangles. Spread them apart and rest them on the ground so they form an "A" shape.
- 3). Unroll a length of chicken wire long enough to cover one of the rectangles, then trim it off the roll. Staple the chicken wire to the outside of the rectangular wall, then repeat on the other side. Trim the excess wire from the cage using wire cutters.
- 4). Cut a length of chicken wire large enough to cover one of the "A"-shaped openings on the end of the coop. Staple it in place, then trim the excess. Repeat on the other end. The result should be an A-frame coop.
- 5). Press the chicken wire on each end inwards towards the inside of the coop, then press the hinged walls together. The chicken wire on the ends will fold neatly inside as the coop folds. Slide the folded coop into a storage area, then remove when needed. Lift one end of the coop to let the chickens in or out.
