How to Organize School Stuff

    • 1). Use a daily planner to organize your list of homework tasks. Planners range from simple lines where you can list your work -- to others that divide each day into hour or half-hour increments to help you plan a day's activities. This can help you figure out when to do your homework, work and other extracurricular activities. Electronic planners on your cell phone are another helpful tool to use to stay organized.

    • 2). Use a thick binder to organize all of your paperwork for all of your classes. Put dividing tabs into the binder to divide your classes. Use folders that are three hole-punched to help you keep track of loose papers for each. Instead of having a binder for each class, one large binder will cut down on your forgetting to bring your binder -- along with your homework and notes -- to class.

    • 3). Keep your pencils, markers, pens and highlighters in one central location. A pencil bag, box or one pocket in your backpack are good options. This keeps you from losing writing utensils all the time and spending money on more.

    • 4). Go through your backpack and binders at least a couple of times each school term. Recycle papers that you do not need to make room for new papers. This keeps the weight of your backpack down, too. When you go through your papers on a regular basis, you are also reminded of school projects and homework that you have not finished.

    • 5). Create a filing system that includes files for things like exams, art work, report cards and event flyers. File the papers away if you will need them in the future or want to keep them as memorabilia, but get them out of your binder. Create a separate pile, basket or folder for items that need to be taken care of right away, such as a reminder for next week's play, permission slips and book orders.
