Ski Vacations in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

    • The small town of Steamboat Springs, in the Rocky Mountains of northwest Colorado, features a wealth of winter recreational opportunities including downhill skiing. Vacationers to Steamboat Springs, or Ski Town U.S.A. as it is often called, will find an international winter vacation destination with two ski resorts, a small downtown area with distinctive dining and shopping options.

    Steamboat Ski Resort

    • Steamboat Ski Resort, located two miles southwest of downtown Steamboat Springs offers 2,965 acres of skiable terrain. The resort receives an average of 350 inches of snow annually on its six peaks with 165 trails, a terrain park with half-pipe, and 18 chair lifts. Guests enjoy a variety of shopping and dining venues at the resort including NewStix Ski Shop, Thunderhead Restaurant and Gondola Square featuring a cafeteria, coffee shop and cocktail lounge at the base of the mountain. Steamboat Ski School provides lessons for all experience levels including a special kids' club with a private skiing area.

    Howelsen Hill Ski Area

    • Howelsen Hill Ski Area is a city-owned ski area located on the western edge of downtown Steamboat Springs and separated from the shopping district by the Yampa River. Howelsen features 15 ski runs with a top elevation of 7,136 feet, four chair lifts and over 50 percent of the property has snow-making equipment. This ski facility is easier and less crowded than other larger resorts in the area. At the base of the ski hill, a lodge provides a warming area, equipment rentals and a snack shop.

    Accommodations

    • The town of Steamboat Springs offers visitors a variety of lodging options for their ski vacation. Ski In/Ski Out accommodations at the base of the Steamboat Resort include condominium rental properties such as Gondola Square, Ski Trail Condominiums and Storm Meadows. Downtown Steamboat Springs provides a few accommodations, such as the Rabbit Ears Motel and Hotel Bristol, that are within walking distance of the town's many shopping and dining establishments. The downtown properties are within a half mile of the Howelsen Hill Ski Area and have a complimentary shuttles to the Steamboat Ski Area. Numerous resorts and chain hotels are within a few blocks of the Steamboat Ski Area south of downtown, including the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, Trappeur's Resort and Holiday Inn Hotel.
