How to Interview a Teacher for a Homework Assignment

    • 1). Contact your teacher to ask him if he is willing to participate in an interview and to set up a time and place. Explain the purpose of the interview and why you decided to choose him. Make sure you find a time that it is convenient for him, but also gives you enough time for you to complete your assignment.

    • 2). Prepare for the interview with your teacher by writing out the questions that you want to ask her. Follow any guidelines that you had from your homework assignment when you are writing the questions and make sure that they make sense when you read over them. Begin with more casual questions to break the ice before asking harder or deeper questions.

    • 3). Conduct the interview in a quiet place where you and your teacher are without distractions. Write down a few notes from his answers, but do not try to write everything he says down word-for-word because it will be too time-consuming. Bring a digital recorder if necessary to record the interview if you cannot write fast enough.

    • 4). Ask enough questions to complete your assignment but do not take more than 15-20 minutes to complete the interview. This shows that you are respectful of your teacher's time.

    • 5). Read your notes directly after and fill in any blanks, things you did not write down or abbreviations that you might have made. They may make sense to you now, but probably won't after a few weeks or days.
