How to Check the Standard Transmission Oil on a Volkswagen Cabrio
- 1). Place a jack underneath your Volkswagen's undercarriage. Jack the car up and put jack stands in place so you can operate underneath the vehicle.
- 2). Position yourself beneath your car. With a wrench, loosen the transmission's fill plug. You will find the fill plug underneath the Cabrio, near the driver's side of the car in about the same place as the gear shift. It is a circular disc-like cap that can be unscrewed.
Disconnect the fill plug and insert one of your fingers into the slot to feel for transmission fluid. If you feel fluid on the tip of your finger, your Volkswagen has adequate fluid. If the slot is dry, you'll need to add more fluid to your transmission. - 3). Open a bottle of standard transmission oil. Attach a fill tube to the bottle opening so you can pour fluid into the transmission. Insert the other end of the fill tube into the hole of the fill plug. Hold the bottle steady so that you can add fluid.
- 4). Tilt and squeeze the bottle of transmission fluid so that it flows directly into your transmission through the fill hole.
- 5). Remove the tube and check for fluid again by placing your finger against the fill hole. If fluid is felt, your transmission is full. If not, repeat the process of adding more fluid.
- 6). Replace the fill plug cap, making sure you screw it on tightly. Slide from under your car and lower it.
