How to Pass an Eye Test

    • 1). Disclose all information about your vision. Be sure to let the optometrist know if you currently wear glasses or contacts and the strength of your vision prescription, as well as any family history of vision problems. This will give the doctor your background and allow him or her to correctly administer the test. It's a good idea to bring your glasses or contacts into the office with you. If you don't know the strength of your current vision prescription, let the doctor know.

    • 2). Remove your glasses or contacts. You will be asked to do this before taking the test. Don't try to leave in your contacts in hope of scoring better on the eye exam. The doctor will be able to detect if they are in. Furthermore, it is in your interest to get the most accurate result from the test.

    • 3). Respond to prompts from your doctor thoroughly and honestly. You will be asked to identify certain images by sight. Don't try to guess or improvise answers. Just respond to your doctor's questions as best you can. If you experience strain or discomfort at any point, let the doctor know.

    • 4). Don't be discouraged by the results of your eye exam. There is no "passing" or "failing" in the sense of an academic or aptitude test. The eye exam exists to identify problems with your vision so that they can be mitigated. Therefore, it is in your interest to treat it as a medical exam and use any prescribed materials as directed.
