What It Means to Be a Mother

Being a mother means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
Ultimately you will give it your own meaning, and no one is right or wrong in the meaning they assign to the title.
But there are certain things that it definitely means.
It means you are the giver of life.
You incubated that child in your body for 9 months and have earned your status as mother.
It's a title given through trial by fire.
You can't just become a mom, you've put your time in and paid the price.
There's nothing else like being a mom in the whole world.
Father's may doubt the paternity of their children for as long as they live and for whatever reasons they can fathom up.
But you'll always know that that baby is yours because you've been with it during pregnancy and made it through the birthing process.
The two of you share a special bond and that means the world to both of you.
Your child might not always appreciate it, but it's probably because they're too young to understand.
If they're grown up now, they still might not know just how important you were to their development and upbringing.
A child will have many teachers in their life but you will always be their first.
Being a mother means that you were the one that was there for them from day one.
You took care of them when they couldn't take care of themselves and you loved them unconditionally right from the start.
You were there to teach them right from wrong, to show them the joys and sorrows of the world.
You helped them learn to read and steered them clear of danger.
Your children owe more than just their existence to you, they owe their ability to survive to you.
That means a ton.
Every burly guy you see out there still has a soft spot for his mom.
He may not admit it but deep down they do.
It's because they understand the importance of a mother.
You don't see many bikers with a "Dad" tattoo with a heart.
A good father is a rarity, but good moms abound and perhaps they get taken for granted.
A father's job in creating a child last a few minutes but a mother's job never seems to end.
Being a mother means that you'll have to learn to let go.
You'll eventually have to watch your babies grow up and go on to live lives of their own.
Being a mother means heartbreak and heartache.
It means loss and sadness.
But it also means joy and hope, as you watch your family grow and you inherit a new title: Grandmother.
And that means so much more!
