Sleep Apnea Medical Treatments

Many people have problems sleeping at one point or another.
There are many reasons why they may lose sleep, but to really find out you need to visit your doctor.
Different causes of sleep loss can be range from either being physical, mental or even emotional.
In this article I will basically cover the physical side of things.
One of the leading causes of sleep loss is what is referred to as sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea is a disorder that caused by the person's airway being restricted or even blocked while they sleep.
A visit with your doctor will define on what type of treatment you will need.
Sleep apnea treatments range from simple behavioral changes in the person's life to the more involved medical surgeries.
The choices that you would be given will depend on the severity of the disorder.
One of the less involved treatments is where the person would wear a mask of some sort that will help breath better while they slept.
The mask is attached to a machine that applies just enough pressure to help keep the airway open for the person.
Some would look at it as a oxygen mask, but it doesn't dispense any oxygen.
As for the more serious types of sleep apnea, surgery may be the only way for those who suffer from this disorder to get any relief.
I some cases having a deviated septum or enlarged tonsils will cause you to suffer with sleep apnea.
The good news is that they are solved with quite simple procedures or surgery.
Common surgeries for sleep apnea that are performed are: Somnoplasty, where they reduce the amount of soft tissue in the upper airway.
Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (also known as UPPP), another procedure where they remove the soft tissue from the back of the person's throat and palate.
Typical nasal surgery where they correct common nasal obstructions.
Mandibular maxillar advancement surgery: Invasive surgery to correct certain facial abnormalities or throat obstructions that contribute to sleep apnea.
