How to Floc a Cloudy Pool

    • 1). Turn off the pool filter and pump. Twist the filter's handle until it points at the "Recirculate" setting on the filter's dial valve.

    • 2). Pour the recommended dosage of a flocculent directly into the pool water. Usual dosage amounts equal 16 ounces of floc per 10,000 gallons of water being treated.

    • 3). Turn the filter and pump on. Let the pool run on the recirculate setting for at least 2 hours. Running the filter on recirculate bypasses the filter, ensuring the floc agent circulates through the pool water but does not get wasted on the filter.

    • 4). Shut down the pool pump and filter completely. Let the pool sit overnight or for at least 12 hours. All free-floating debris in the pool water drops to the bottom of the pool for easier vacuuming if the treatment was successful.

    • 5). Vacuum the settled debris with a pool vacuum. If debris remains floating in the water, retreat the pool with flocculent and repeat the waiting and vacuuming processes.
