Facts about drug rehabilitation facilities

Drug and alcohol addiction is now appearing as a common health problem or disease in the United States. The rate of illegal drug abuse is quite rampant and according to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, about seven million people were taking prescription drugs for non-medical use in 2010. The prescription drug abuse is now second only to cannabis and nearly 1 in 12 high school seniors reported nonmedical use of Vicodin and about 1 in 20 reported abuse of OxyContin. To help people or patients from coming out of their alcohol and drug addiction, the drug rehabilitation centers or rehab treatment facilities and centers are established in various states and counties in the United States.

These drug rehab facilities help drug addicts to recover from their drug/alcohol addiction to prepare them to come back or reenter the society. Drug addiction usually changes a person's behavior that affects all aspects of his/her life including work and relationships. In drug rehab facilities, these persons or patients do their best to regain their normal lives in a safe and healthy way. There are different types of drug rehab facilities some specialize in helping patients with a specific drug addiction others offer a broader range of drug addiction services. Some of the drug rehab facilities even specialize in providing facilities that are gender specific or age specific to help patients feel more comfortable in the rehab setting.

The drug rehab treatment centers or facilities often carry the stigma that patients are forced to stay in but it is not true. The patients in rehab centers are free to leave anytime they choose to. The drug rehab centers range from basic facilities to luxury treatment centers. The type of center a patient attends depends upon his or her level of insurance coverage. It is a fact, that luxury drug facilities offer more amenities than basic facilities but they are not the best treatment centers. Therefore, a patient is required to investigate rehab facilities before making a final decision to be enrolled or registered in those centers.

The drug rehab treatment facilities help patients to change their attitudes towards drugs as doctors and counselors in these drug rehab centers help patients to make goals for themselves. The drug rehab treatment facilities usually offer frequent individual counseling to patients and these counseling sessions sometimes even take place on a daily basis. Doctors in these rehab centers may administer medications to patients to assist them in their recovery. Drug rehab usually lasts 28 days but may even take several months depending upon the case of the patient. A drug rehab center may also provide inpatient and outpatient rehab facilities. Thus, it can be said that drug rehab centers are providing all these after care services/facilities to help patients remain drug free and avoid relapse.
