What Is a Posi-Track Rear End?
- Regular rear end differentials allow the wheels on the rear axle to spin at different speeds. If a wheel starts to slip, all of the driveshaft's torque will be delivered to that wheel, making it rotate faster. The opposite wheel with the traction will lose power, resulting in a stuck vehicle.
- A posi-track rear end provides torque and rotational power to both wheels equally and at the same time. The result is a much improved traction capability. Posi-track differentials contain cone-type clutches mated with beveled side gears. The clutches engage at high acceleration levels to transfer power equally to both wheels.
- A posi-track rear end is useful for controlling traction in high-performance vehicles. In tight cornering maneuvers, the differential allows the drive axle shafts to act independently, so the outside wheel can rotate faster than the inside wheel to prevent spinouts. Posi-track vehicles are safer to operate on icy roads or in muddy, slippery off-road conditions.
