How to sell old mobiles
- 1). Consider selling your phone to an Internet-based company that buys old phones. These companies are plentiful in the UK. They include Envirofone, Mazuma and Mobile2Cash. To get a quote, enter the make and model of your phone on the company’s website. If you accept the price, they will send you a freepost jiffy bag. Put your old phone in this and send it to them. Moneysavingexpert.com has a Mobile Selling Checker that compares the main sites for working and non-working phones.
- 2). Sell to an individual buyer via a website such as eBay or Gumtree. You can earn on average 20 to 30 per cent more than on the best recycling sites, according to moneysavingexpert.com. The downside is that you have to go to a bit more trouble. You need to post a description and a photograph of the phone on the website. And when you find a buyer, you have to go to a post office to post it to him.
- 3). Trade in your old phone when you buy a new one. The company you are buying your new phone from--such as Orange, O2, Vodafone, Phones4u or Carphone Warehouse--may offer you a good deal. You can check the trade-in calculators on these company websites or you can ask in store.
- 4). Consider selling your old mobile to a friend or family member.
