Grants for Victim Assistance

Office for Victims of Crime Discretionary Grants

    • The Office for Victims of Crime, or OVC, is a program of the U.S. Department of Justice that provides discretionary grants to improve and increase availability of victim services. Nonprofit organizations, state and local government agencies, educational institutions, individuals and private commercial organizations are eligible to apply. Grants may be used to train staff on crime victim issues, develop promising practices and compensate crime victims. OVC discretionary grants also support services for Native Americans, including victims of child abuse.

    Winston-Salem Foundation

    • The Winston-Salem Foundation administers the Chrissy Gallaher Victim's Assistance Fund, which awards money to organizations that in turn make grants to crime victims. Funds are not awarded to directly support organizations, except for nonprofit, community and law enforcement organizations that provide information to victims of violent crime. Organizations that serve crime victims in Davie, Forsyth and Stokes counties in North Carolina are eligible. The grants to victims may be used to assist family members, pay for relocation costs and lost wages, cover expenses and home repair costs for break-in damages, and provide transportation and clothing.
