Now We"re Cooking! - iPad Takes Over the Kitchen
These days, it seems there is a never-ending supply of home kitchen innovations.
From knives that can cut our shoes to a coffeemaker that can brew a cup in less than 30 seconds, we seem to have reached the post-WWII kitchen of tomorrow.
Or have we? The release of the Apple iPad has set the minds of tech trendsetters wild with collaboration ideas.
But few will likely be as brilliant as the Kitchen Cabinet mount.
Created by technology blogger Adam Daly, the cabinet holds the iPad tablet, connects it to a speaker system, and allows easy visibility for viewing recipes, TV shows and movies.
Daly chronicled the project on his blog, Technolog.
ie and talked about the joys of having a custom kitchen cabinet with a semi-portable, wifi-enabled command center installed.
But the reaction from the Internet world has not all been so sunny.
Many Apple devotees are upset at Daly for turning what they believe to be a portable revolution into an immobile home entertainment device.
But what the video doesn't show is that the iPad doesn't stop at creating the most modern of kitchen cabinets; it can also be removed at any time.
And since Daly has kids, a counter-level stand would provide a precarious situation while he tries to concentrate on cooking.
By installing iPad in his kitchen cabinets, Daly has prevented food spatters and greasy, clumsy fingers from getting hold of the tablet.
In his online epistle, Daly suggests a few other modifications the great app creators of the world could devise to make his device more kitchen-friendly.
He plans to install cabinet accessories like a power source for charging, and search iPad apps like EyeTV and WunderRadio for more media in the kitchen.
He is also anxiously awaiting Apple to allow the Remote App (which would allow Daly to stream his entire computer music library) to work in landscape mode.
Once these upgrades are complete, Daly's kitchen of tomorrow will be ready to roll, with the musical, most connected and most modern kitchen cabinet available today.
